March 8th is International Women’s Day, a flagship day (created by the ever-optimistic-if-not-a-little-beleaguered United Nations in 1977) for all y’all, not just the girls, to celebrate the women in your life. IWD is not about gift giving and ceremonial dinners but an oppurtunity to spread awareness about the status of women globally and how we could and should make efforts to bring all nations into the new millennium by seriously recognizing the contributions of women to society.
