Do you think the Petronas ad for this raya is good? The story is of an aged man who is unable to take care of himself and has to live with his daughter’s family much to the displeasure of the son-in-law. For me the drama here is abit ‘the over’ when compared to years past. Especially juxtaposed with one of my favourite – the 1999 raya ad; understated and humorous but still makes you cry barrels.
However, sometimes you have to take the message to the extreme so that the blur people take notice, no? Apasal this year got no Deepavali ad? Or have I just not found it? Anybody? Anyone? Bueller?
So the Raya, CNY and Deepavali ads all have filial piety themes while the Merdeka ads are about our muhibbah-ness. The last couple year’s CNY ads – Poh Poh and Me and The Old Folks – were absolute home runs. So I’ll be expecting more of the same in a few months time.
