Yesterday/today, depending on where you live, following its Supreme Court ruling about three weeks ago, Iowa began issuing marriage licenses to same sex couples.

And the world did not come to an end. Much to the chagrin of a few nitwits, I bet.

The New York Times reports: “The large, angry protests some had imagined never materialized in this city [Des Moines], the state’s most populous. Neither did the crowds of couples from all over the nation that some feared might create a carnival-like atmosphere captured in earlier images from other places.”

First, Indiana turns blue, now Iowa is more progressive than California. What’s next?

This is, by far, the best Hitchin Homos Watch of Whateverlah.Com announcement ever. Ever. Only sad part is that I couldn’t be there. It’s like the third wedding – maybe even the fourth – that I want to be at but cannot. Really, people.. every single one of you reading this, why can’t you ever schedule your happy day around me, huh?

Me: Dude. Even Vegas marriages require a witness.. what makes you think–
Him: I thought they provided you with one!
Me: ….. This is awesome. I wonder how many others didn’t know. I should be out there with a sign, “Witness for Hire”. 20 bucks per couple. I’d make a pretty penny.

Him: Here. Come out HERE to LA.
Me: Well you didn’t specify!! But fine, I’ll come out as not-gay-not-straight-no-bi-not-trans-not-anything during National Coming Out Week.

The civil wedding ceremony was held at the town hall and there were about 100 in attendance. Best of all the mayor of Seville officiated the ceremony. Mayor Alfredo Sánchez Monteseirín said, “This is not just your wedding. You symbolize millions of people who are not here and suffer from homophobia. The city will protect your rights.”

*sniff, sniff* Baby steps. Baby steps, y’all.

Just learned from Towleroad that Darren Hayes, formerly of Savage Garden, has married last month in the UK. The lucky guy is some dude named Richard.

I am now picturing these girls in pinafore, some of the girls I went to school with, being devastated by this news; playing I Knew I Loved You over and over again, crying about another one who’s joined the other team.

Stephen Gately To Tie The Knot
Stephen Gately, openly gay singer from the now-defunct Irish boy band Boyzone, has announced that he plans to enter into a civic partnership. Newindpress.com reports that Gately, inspired by Elton John’s recent nuptials, will have a ceremony with his partner, Andy Crowles, in his hometown of Dublin later this year. John introduced the two and will be a guest of honor at the event. Gately and Crowles had a ceremony in Las Vegas in 2003.
