science love
So muck geek love coming out of Twitter today that I’m not going to bother to fit it all under 140 characters.
First of all, Stephen Fry tweeted:
Wheee! My alltime hero Richard Feynman. The legendary BBCCornell Lectures.God bless Bill Gates(never thought I’d say that!) http://is.gd/1zXuv
Note: the link probably doesn’t work too well, or maybe it’s just my crap internet. Basically, it’s a link to the videos of Feynman’s lectures (7 hours worth) done at Cornell is now available thanks to Bill Gates. (Hint: go youtube these videos if the Microsoft link doesn’t work for you)
The point is.. Fry loves Feynman. I Love Fry and Feynman. <3 <3 <3
And then..
Go behind the scenes of TEDTalk with a mini documentary. Squeeeee!!!!
not mine

Aluminium casing. Intel dual core Core 2 Duo. Backlit keyboard. 4gb RAM. 500gb HD. Only bad thing so far – no firewire port.
I must not be jealous. I must not be jealous. I must not be jealous. I must not be jealous. I must not be jealous. I must not be jealous. I must not be jealous. I must not be jealous. I must not be jealous. I must not be jealous. I must not be jealous. I must not be jealous. I must not be jealous.
(ass) backwards design
Apparently there is a document circulating the internet that’s a graphic identity manual for the new Pepsi logo – pages and pages of absurd justification of how and why the logo came to be and how it is a landmark in design, geometry and aesthetics.
Read it here on Brand New – a blog on corporate identity and branding.
D’oh! Can’t believe Pepsi paid these people good money for the design.
I’m just another one of the voices in the loud chorus of “IT SUCKS”.
I didn’t drink the kool-aid
The New York Times online deemed it worthy to have a 2-page article on the 25 Things meme that’s been spreading like the wildfires Down Under, mostly across Facebook. It’s a fairly decent read.
Here’s the thing – if you did the meme (and I *know* a few of you reading this have done it), that’s cool. Don’t kid yourselves about it not seeming self indulgent though – yours and my existence on Facebook is self-indulgent; this entire BLOG is self indulgent.
And that’s fine.
I just don’t have any desire to share with 25 people 25 random things about me. Not all at once anyway. What’s the fun in that?
But that’s just me. You know me.
ding dong the DRM-witch is dead
I’ve been railing again the iTunes store and sworn off buying music from it because of its DRM locked files that won’t play on anything except iPods. Since last fall I’ve been buying music from Amazon and telling everyone else that would listen to do the same.
Well, at the latest MacWorld (in which the biggest news was Steve Jobs’ absence and preceding that was this being Apple’s final appearance at MacWorld) it was announced that Apple will drop DRM from the music store. But at a price – an increase of about 30 cents. So the new songs will now cost $1.29 – not counting the tax.
So. I think I’ll stick with Amazon for now.
If I had four hundred dollars
I would want spend it on this:

The One Laptop Per Child program. You donate $199, you give a child an awesome laptop. For $399 on Amazon, you give away a laptop and you get to keep one for yourself. It’s nice.
it’s what they don’t show you
So on TV you get this version of the Guitar Hero World Tour Risky Business ad:
Which is kinda funny and whatever.
And then there’s this ‘director’s cut’ version with Heidi Klum:
I hate Brett Ratner. I hate him so much I want his job.
It makes me want to go out and buy ten gazillion guitars if only to have one of them played by Heidi like that.
Oh wait.. I already got the game.
Hrmph.
P.S. – you know what really sucks tho is that the song used in the commercials is not even IN the game. boo!
Pork and Beans and innernet’s esteemed
What does it say about me that I recognise almost every internet star in Weezer’s new video?
Yes, that I am, indeed, very much, a geek.
And all hail Weezer. While Pork And Beans isn’t, say, The Sweater Song (my all time fave, can you tell?), it is still far better than most radio friendly tunes out there. They simply rock and rock simply.
i loled
Remember If Ancient Rome Had The Internet?
This is 20 Websites From Before the Internet was Invented
My pick would’ve been #2. But #1 is pretty bad.. er.. ass.

i think i want to ask for a blackberry for graduation. haha
monday morning map musement
I make fun of Americans and their geography (in)abilities so often I feel like I should balance it out with bad map skills internationally. So let’s take on the Swiss and their airline’s confused map of their American routes, via Strange Maps blog:

So according to this Indianapolis is now the new Fort Wayne, Cleveland is now in Michigan, Sacramento and Portland moved a few hundred miles inland, Denver relocated to Wyoming, and Pittsburgh is underwater.
Sao Paolo, it seems, stretches from coast to coast. I could go on and on.
This is what happens when you charge the graphic designer kid with drawing a map.
i waaaaaaaant
It’s SEXY. Not very practical but that’s not the point now, is it?
I also want Mario Kart(IGN.com) for teh Wii. ’nuff said.
At first I really wanted a second Les Paul guitar(Amazon) for Guitar Hero III. Now that it’s out, and I see that it costs $73.39 for just the guitar ($60ish from Walmart) … fuuuuuck that.
I’d rather save up for Guitar Hero Aerosmith (Amazon) coming out late June.
Or GTA IV for the Wii. Only god knows when that’ll be released. They better also offer that cool ass bundle that includes the duffle bag/plates/metal box for the Wii edition like they’re doig currently for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Harrumph!
