Hai Yahoo! Sports in UK peeps.. ur Euro 2008 table on teh front paeg r brokez.

pls fixxorz. kthxbai.
go team! and all that stuff
It’s just a little over 2 months before the 08 Olympics kick off and the stupid Visa commercial (you know, the one with the Morgan Freeman voice over) already made me cry. That’s right, I cry at soppy commercials.
But back to my point, which is, how awesome is the Olympics? With the exception of 90% of the track events and most of the field stuff (and boxing, and synchronized anything) I would watch every single sport that’s going to be contested.
Why? Because you don’t get to see stuff like that for three years! It’s like waiting every four years to enjoy curling. That’s why.
What I’m most looking forward to this August: hockey, rowing, volleyball, table tennis, BADMINTON and handball – the latter its name is not the only thing I love about the sport. And I can never explain why I watch weightlifting– and it’s not because the damn event is called the clean and jerk you bunch of gutter brained goofballs!
If there’s a professional sport called sports watching, I’d be really good at it. Need to work some on my cricket knowledge but otherwise…
Shit!
Mauresmo bounced out of Roland Garros by a qualifier.
>_<
From Roland Garros website, “As It Happens” by Drew Lilley (emphasis mine):
2 14 pm: Frenchies … do you want the good news or the bad news? Bad: Ameliiieee got rebroken and Suareththth Nabbbbarro has three match-points. And it only takes one – Ameeeee is out. Bravo Carla Suarez Navarro, who is applauded on by her compatriot and former three-time RG winner Arantxa Santchez-Vicario in the crowd (looking absolutely radiant, I might add. Indeed I just have added). Ameee just can’t cut it here at RG. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her retire after Wimbledon (she likes the grass there) as she doesn’t seem to be enjoying her tennis. Maybe Wimbly will remotivate her. But the good news is…
ah so..
here’s one way to have an edge at Roland Garros:

Wear camouflage like Tzipora Obziler when she played Venus Williams. Williams did struggle abit in the second set; she was up 4-1 but then dropped the next *five* games to Obziler. But, as champions verily do (you hear me, Amelie???!!), Williams dug in and cleaned up in the third to win the match, 6/3 4/6 6/1.
television is (sometimes) evil
Alright. I was up since 8 to watch the most boring F1 race of the entire season but I watched it cause I got tired of never being able to catch any races all season long. Turned out to be a really exciting race, in case you wanted to know.
Then later today I thought I’d hunker down and do some work. But noooooo… USA is running eleven hours of SVU, there’s some French Open action on ESPN2 and softball on ESPN! On top of all of that, it’s the big race this weekend (the 500 lah) that I was all ready to couch potato and rot my brain for.
Alas, this cannot happen for I need to be at the library. Researching. Doing homework. Such. A. Nerd.
So. Go Sarah Fisher. Go Danica Patrick. Go Serena Williams. Go Michigan softball.
NBA playoffs? Hockey finals? really? lols.
Big Chill at the Lil 5

From 1pm to about 4.30pm today the average temperature was about 41F (5C) and winds gusting continually at 15-24mph. It rained on and off. I was dressed in jeans and hoodie – brilliant plan to stay outdoors for that long a time just to see some amateurs ride their bikes around a small oval track.
Little 5 came and went. The Cutters (yea, they really exist – borrowing the names and independent spirit from the movie’s real Cutters) ran away with it by lap 184 or so but the sprint to the finish for second and third was great. I wonder if, like basketball, Little 500 should be considered a fourth quarter game because the rest of it was more fun spent people drunk sorority girls watching and eavesdropping on fratboy confessions about peeing on their roofs four times that day. That’s when I wasn’t jumping up and down on the bleachers trying to get blood to the tips of my toes.
Now I think I can say I’ve had the full Hoosier experience? Only thing left to do while in Indiana, really, is to go see Touchdown Jesus.
Some pics from the event are now in an album in the gallery.
drunk people are really obnoxious
Is it really Little 5 week again? The crazies are driving me crazy.
I often fantasize about retribution but there is no scenario that would afford the kind of schadenfreude I dream of.
A statement of disclosure – I’m attending the tail end of a Kegs And Eggs, which may or may not be as obnoxious as the other Little 5 soirees, as well as the men’s race on Saturday. Time permitting, I’ll even go see the ladies race.
Tho it looks like the weather’s gonna have their say about how waterlogged the area will be in the following days:

If you can’t beat ‘em….
the impossible bracket

That’s right, I pick Stanford to win it all.
golf.. lol…
So the NY Times has an article about how golf is becoming less popular among Americans. The game is suffering because the older players cites less time for golfing because they have to work harder and the younger crowd is attracted to other sports and apparently, the latter is also not “as active”.
The National Golf Course Owners Association has strategized among other things upping the marketing to women, who make up one fourth of the total number of golfers in this country.
I don’t know if this’ll help recruitment with the women per se but can I suggest that they sign Anna Rawson, model + pro golfer, as a spokesperson of some sort.

Yea? No? Yea?
Rawson has sterling credentials. And by sterling I mean I’m biased that she is a graduate of USC, was on the golf team and in the 2003-2004 season won USC’s first NCAA golf championship.
Trojans are just hot. Natch.
There Is No Arizona
Super Bowl kicks off in about 40 minutes or so in Scottsdale Glendale… I just want the Pats to not have a perfect season. Other than that I don’t care. Is that so bad? Nah. Didn’t think so.
my toes are blue
My ears are in pain from walking out in the cold. I r also sick and my runny nose was fun out in the cold.
On the flip side of things, USC beat #4 UCLA, 72-63 *at* UCLA. Oh snap!
*happydance happydance*
The women’s field in the Australian Open is actually strong.
*happydance happydance*
back on the scene
I. Am. Done.
FUCK. YEA.
And the first news I’m bringing is that the USC womens soccer team beat UCLA in the NCAA semifinals to advance to championship play or ‘College Cup’ (ghey) to face FSU.
It’s ridiculous – RIDICULOUS – that it only seemed like yesterday when I was rooting for UNC to beat the fUCLAs in semifinal plays but that was actually last year. God. Seriously?
Andre had enough
It’s been ten years… or so… but this exchange between Steffi Graf and a fan at Wimbledon still makes me laugh:
She’s the only reason to visit Rhode Island.
